The rejuvenation of this fringe area of Newmarket, in conjunction with Westfield Design, involved the upgrading of two very different buildings and a through-road. The resulting streetscape is now a vibrant shopping precinct reminiscent of Melbourne.
The impressive Mercury Energy building, with its heritage-listed curved façades, was converted into high-end office space. Its ground floor now houses high-end fashion and home wares tenants. The building's stately staircases were revived and its lobby was revamped to suit its commercial tenants, Watercare and Sony.
The previously rundown semi-industrial Nuffield building was seismically strengthened and extensively rebuilt behind its original façade. It now caters for restaurant tenancies and high-end fashion retailers.
