The development is located at the corner of Champion Road and Salisbury Road in the heart of Richmond. The proposed building consists of 3450sqm of Countdown supermarket and 550sqm of speciality retail. It was intended as a new-generation flagship Countdown supermarket with many retail innovations reflecting the ongoing changes in retail trends and digital technologies. It is a new-generation Countdown supermarket with a contemporary marketplace concept, a new pharmacy, a cellar, and the first online pickup drive-thru offer in South Island. It is the first “Green Star” rated Countdown supermarket in New Zealand. The building design explored ways to break the visual massing, reduction of overall building size and break down of a large building block into smaller modulations. “In-go” and “Out-go” are utilised on building elevation to create a visual appearance at the street level and represent a cluster of smaller building blocks. The building façade articulates through careful use of the cladding combination, glazing, colour, and material palette.
