This first-floor facility in a new strip retail development features children’s play areas above retail units. The ancillary outdoor areas are well lit and airy, with a considered material palette and an interesting outlook for the young occupants and their caregivers.
This project required meticulous detailing to minimise the risk of waterproofing damage during the building’s life span. The upper storey facility was integrated into the overbuilding design, including sun shading and play area balustrades. This ensured a seamless aesthetic for the entire development.
Fire egress requirements for care facilities in upper-storey sites are understandably onerous. Care was taken to meet all necessary standards while providing a stimulating, high-quality environment that would appeal to children and satisfy the needs of educators.
